April 27, 2011 — Internet safety is an ongoing concern in today’s era of advanced technology with the hype of social networking. Facebook has taken action and expanded safety tools and resources to increase the security of its users, while other companies provide ways to keep your identity private while on the net.
In March, Facebook provided its members a social reporting tool as an aggressive attempt to combat bullying. The social reporting tool gives a user the capability to report community members and photographs viewed as harassment or harmful. Facebook has also created additional security options under its Account Settings/Account Security page. Facebook users can check a box to receive an email when a new computer or mobile device logs into their account. They also have the option to choose to browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible. Just last week, Facebook unveiled an enhanced version of its Family Safety Center, which provides informative articles and videos to help individuals be aware of online safety and privacy settings.
VoiceNation, the leader in innovative technology, provides a service called SimplyONE which protects your private mobile phone number when doing business over the internet. With SimplyONE, users can choose their own local or toll free telephone number that can be switched between four different applications including voicemail, 24 hour recorded hotline, re-direct number, or a complete virtual personal assistant. When conducting internet business on Craigslist for example, customers will list their VoiceNation telephone number in the ad and use the re-direct feature to have incoming calls forwarded to their personal mobile number instead of listing their personal number for the public to have.
You can never be too careful. Prowlers, scams and fraud are all over the internet. It’s better to be safe than sorry with your private information available online. Take precautions to safeguard your existence online through the enhanced online safety tools available to you.
